Sweetheart Ball
Olivia and Brian went to their first father/daughter Sweetheart Ball last weekend. They had so much fun!!! I think Brian was a little nervous, wondering what he had signed up for, especially when Olivia requested that, as her "date", she wanted him to wear white pants, a white jacket and a pink shirt. Although he did wear something very similar to his high school prom, he nixed the idea and opted for a new pink shirt and purple flowered tie (which is stepping out for Brian!)
Olivia had wardrobe issues of her own, mainly her and I agreeing on a dress. Finally, we agreed on a dress she can also wear for Easter. After this experience, I am reminded how thankful I am that she is required to wear uniforms at her school! We did have fun shopping together once she clearly understood she was not going to get a sleeveless black dress with sequins (yes they do sell those for kids!)
Our biggest challenge of the day was getting hair done for Olivia and her two friends, Ashlee and Megan before their morning basketball game. Ironically, it was also picture day for the basketball team. So, it was hair at 9 (I did the 3 girls' hair at our house), pictures at 11:30, basketball at noon and dance at 1:30. I have to say the curls and updo's seemed a little out of place at basketball, although they did look pretty darn cute and played well! Olivia is, however, blaming the tight hairdo for her slight error in shooting a basket at the wrong end of the court - at least she made it!
It was a little weird for us moms taking the group photos in the front yard and watching them drive off with their "dates" to the dance. I think we had visuals of the dances, proms, etc. that are coming, sooner than we can imagine.
The girls had a blast doing valentine crafts, taking a horse drawn carriage ride and of course dancing . The dads survived too, without embarrassing themselves or the girls with their disco moves, although they seemed pretty anxious to meet us moms afterward for drinks and burgers. It was a fun day for everyone!
